Release of the Guide to Using Environmental DNA in Rivers and Streams

One year after the release of the marine guide in September 2024, the Vigilife International consortium is proud to announce the release of the Rivers & Streams guide!

The result of a partnership between Vigilife and PatriNat, this guide to using environmental DNA (eDNA) in rivers is the product of a collaborative effort between researchers, experts and practitioners in France, including its overseas territories. It is aimed at a wide community of stakeholders and aims to make the use of eDNA more accessible for biodiversity inventory and monitoring.

In order to guarantee the reliability of the results, it is essential to follow rigorous protocols, from sampling to data analysis, and to draw on the expertise of ecologists and naturalists. The guide provides an educational overview of commonly used approaches and offers recommendations to help users choose the approaches best suited to their specific objectives and contexts.

It is planned to update it regularly, in line with technological improvements and advances in scientific research, which, given the growing importance of DNA analysis in biodiversity studies, are likely to be numerous in the coming years.
